Playoffs 2011 - Wild Card Week

Commish's Corner....

People's Choice Awards 2011 are underway. So far we have 8 entries with only 4 left to submit. Reminder emails will be coming out soon, so get them in now.

It's Wild Card Weekend baby....woo hoo!! It's been an interesting season to say the least. Teams you though were solid, fall apart in the end. Terrible teams, suddenly look invincible, while some were just okay for the entire season. Either way your season has evolved in 2011, it's best to win, and win early in case your team falters at the finish line. One thing is for sure, as we get into the colder months of the NFL season, teams play so differently from  the warmer months, do they not?

Now, I've been watching the NFL Red Zone this season, loving every week of it. The past four or five weeks, I've caught the end of the Denver Broncos game. I'm just stunned every week watching this unfold. You cannot deny that Tebow is perhaps one of the worst quarterbacks to ever play the game, that is, until the last five minutes of the 4th quarter. Now it's not just Tebow that is responsible for all of these comeback wins. The defense, the receivers, the front line, why on earth does the entire team look like an All-Star team during the last five minutes of the game? In today's game against the Bears, Demaryius Thomas dropping almost everything thrown his way for 55 minutes. Then miraculously, he catches everything that comes even close to him. But they don't even get get the chance to tie the game, except Marion Barber, for some reason steps out of bounds. If he doesn't do that one event, game over. I'm just stunned that the Bears lost the game this week, the Vikings in Week 13, and so on. Crazy!

Wildcard Round Game Recaps….
(1) Crippled Monkeys
(10-3) Central
93.29
vs Pimp Juice (8)
(6-7) Central
129.20

DT Seattle Seahawks MNF none
Oh boy, we start the playoffs with a bang. I can't sugar coat this one, I see an upset happening here. The number one seed, Crippled Monkeys will fall, unless the Seahawks defense can score 36 points. I just don't see it happening. What has been working for the Monkeys, just didn't materialize this week, Arian Foster, Chris Johnson [who has been good as of late], Dwayne Bowe. Cam Newton was plus 25 points once again, the highlight of the team this week. Pimp Juice, who should be on it's way to play in the Semi-Finals, had great performances from Tony Romo, 32.05. Despite not having Adrian Peterson in their lineup, posted 19.63 points from Toby Gerhart. Plus it had outstanding weeks from Antonio Gates and West Welker. This team also left 77 points on their bench and could have scored 157.33 points potentially. Any given Sunday....Underdog 1, Favorite 0

(2) One Angry Gook
(8-5) West
109.44
vs Dynasty (7)
(7-6) Central
138.49

RB Marshawn Lynch MNF none
The team I didn't think would make the playoffs, due to the numerous, big named players, yet, yet, managed to win the West Division in a very convincing fashion, is in trouble. The current lead is 29.05 points by the #7 seed, Dynasty. Okay, who thought Shonn Green, the most traded player, that no one wants from the last three years, would put up almost 30 points? Hakeem Nicks was a huge contributor, same with Brady [no surprise there]. Plus, plus, I have to mention this again, this team put up 138 points WITH Mike Williams on their bench, who would have gave them 4.38 points. I had to get that in there. OAG, didn't have a bad week, 109 points in good enough most weeks, just not this week. Dirty Sanchez, nearly 30 points. Fitzgerald, another great week, plus kicker David Akers once again put up the points. Malcom Floyd and Mike Wallace, not so much. There's certainly points on the bench, but not necessarily the players that got them to the West Division title. If the holds true, and Marshawn Lynch cannot score 30 points, Underdog 2, Favorite 0

(3) Stickboy
(7-6) East
121.56
vs Buckwheat (6)
(7-6) West
95.83
WIN WR Brandon Lloyd MNF none
There is no doubt, Stickboy will defeat the Greatest Team Ever. It's been a bit of a disappointment for Buckwheat. After starting the season 6-2, losing to Grease Slappers in Week 9 and finishing the season 1-4 [nearly 0-5]. They've had to overcome injuries to Michael Vick, and even though he has played, Calvin Johnson really hurt this team the last few weeks, including only 5 points this week. As for Stickboy, despite scoring the 10th most points in the league, and winning the East Division, was clearly not the favorite this week. But, they will advance to Week 15, and may possibly be the #1 seed if OAG doesn't have a great game from Lynch. Every player score in double digits and almost every player score 15 points or more. It was an impressive performance for this underdog team. Any given Sunday....Underdog 3, Favorite 0

(4) Dragons
(8-5) Central
83.66
vs Hustla (5)
(8-5) West
107.59
RB Steven Jackson MNF none
When I spoke to Hustla this week, not sure if he'll admit it, he did sound like he had much of a chance with Matt Forte not in his line up. The main player to get you were you are, out with injury when our playoffs start, not a good thing. This team was relying on CJ Spiller and Jonathan Stewart for RB's. Yt Ryan Grant outscored them both on the bench with his first two TD's of the season. Good luck getting that two weeks in a row. Where did the points come from? Gronk, Gronk, Gronkowski! Acquired in a trade from Buckwheat for Malcom Floyd, plus a defense for both teams. Interesting, Floyd was dropped by Buckwheat in Week 7, picked up by Rutting Bucks in Week 9, dropped Week 12 after scoring zero points in weeks 9-12 [injury] and picked up this past week by OAG, after scoring 19.50 in Week 13, but was a disappointment in Week 14 with 3.63. What's left for this week....Dragons has RB Steven Jackson, Hustla has a 23.93 point lead....I'm smelling another upset this week. Can there be four upsets in the playoffs? Is it possible? Any given Sunday....Underdog 4, Favorite 0
